The Chemistry of Love

Summary:

How can Anna Ellis, a geeky, brilliant, and hopelessly smitten cosmetic chemist possibly win over Craig Kimball, the man of her dreams—who also happens to be her boss? The answer is Craig’s empathetic (and handsome) CEO half brother, Marco. The makeup mogul knows Craig for the ridiculously competitive rival he is. Whatever Marco has, Craig wants. That can be Anna, if she’s game to play.

All Anna and Marco have to do is pretend they’re falling in love and let the rumors begin. If the experiment in attraction works, a jealous Craig will swoop in and give Anna her happily ever after—if it weren’t for one hitch in the plan. There’s more to Marco than meets the eye. With every fake date, Anna’s feelings are starting to become dizzyingly real.

Blame it on chemistry. It’s unpredictable, exciting, and occasionally combustible. If Anna and Marco are really falling in love, who are they to argue with science? (Summary and cover courtesy of goodreads.com)

Review:

This book is very reminiscent of “The Princess Diaries” for me.  We have an ‘ultra-nerd’ who is in love with someone who doesn’t know she exists, some funny supporting characters, and (essentially) a ball.  Honestly the setup is unrealistic regarding the combination job, distraction, and errors that Anna goes through, but if you can set that aside and go with the flow the rest of the book is more enjoyable.  Socially there are a few cringe-worth elements of the book in the beginning as well, but fortunately we mostly move through those quickly.

Despite these false stars, a major element that kept me reading were the solid one-liners sprinkled throughout.  Anna and Marco’s development was sweet and I enjoyed the way they growed together.  Realistically I wouldn’t recommend buying this book, but if you get it for free (as I did through Kindle) then it’s a nice vacation-style light ready.

Rating: 3 stars!

Who should read it? Someone looking for a light romance and don’t mind a little predictability.
