Review:
Given the third installment is coming out in nine short days (as of writing this) I decided it was time to make sure that my review was up for number two. The beginning of this one is not nearly as compelling as the first Crescent City, but it does build. For one, the introduction of Emile felt a little like a stretch to force everyone together. But that leads into a lot of new complications and investigations that start to reveal more of the world behind the Asteri’s rule which made it hard to put down.
Due to the number of twists it’s hard to write a review without spoilers, but it’s very much worth continuing the series. The first time I read the book I got lost a few times so I’d recommend taking your time and allow a little processing so that you can connect the dots. Part of that was keeping track of plot elements and interconnected nuance, and part of that was get additional detail about characters. The second time around I really reveled in getting to know each of the characters and I’m sure we are going to get to know a lot more. Don’t get your hopes up for the book to wrap up with a bow though – we have a cliffhanger leading into book three!
