In the Hand of the Goddess (Song of the Lioness #2)

In the Hand of the Goddess

Summary:

Disguised as a boy, Alanna of Trebond becomes a squire -- to none other than the prince of the realm. But Prince Jonathan is much more to Alanna; he is her ally, her best friend, and one of the few who knows that she's really a girl. Now it will take all of Alanna's awesome skill, strength, and growing magical powers to protect him from the mysterious evil sorcerer who is bent on his destruction--and hers!

Here continues the story of Alanna, a young woman bound for glory who is willing to fight against enormous odds for what she believes in. (Summary and book cover courtesy of goodreads.com)

Review:

In this sequel, Alanna begins to reconcile herself to being female and understanding that she can be strong regardless of the way she chooses to reveal herself.  As she faces the next challenges on the journey to knighthood, she goes through the Ordeal as well as facing her biggest enemy.  This is a book that I cannot avoid reading in one sitting.  I find that I have to carve out enough time to read the entire book because it’s impossible to pause halfway through!

I really like the way Pierce handles Alanna’s transition from tomboy to woman.  I do remember this was the book I found blew my mind the most growing up.  It covered a lot of things that I hadn’t thought about yet so it’d certainly be helpful for young girls.

Warning: Contains some sexual content
